Mary Beth’s journalism career began in grade school when she started writing stories for friends, and it took off from there. It has spanned multiple decades and as a result, she has been involved in a wide variety of print and digital media. Some of the awards she has won include: First Place for Best Spot News Coverage from UPI (United Press International), a William Randolph Hearst scholarship and a PR Silver Anvil for winning clients widespread media coverage for placement with The CBS Early Morning News, USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, Tonight/WTTW and more.

Mary Beth’s experience has run the gamut. She has been the Bureau Chief for Crain’s Chicago Business, a features and news reporter for The Chicago Tribune, Daily Herald, Family Circle and AOL News, and a best-selling author of 11 books, including: The Grateful Life: The Secret to Happiness, and the Science of Contentment (Viva Editions), one of a series on harnessing the power of a positive attitude.

Her editorial and people skills have allowed her to organize, helm and motivate teams of writers to launch and grow several robust, energetic and engaged communities for leading Internet Web sites. She was the chief editorial architect of Carepages.com, a health and patient-centered online community which grew from zero to four million members in less than two years.

Mary Beth has a keen understanding of how to tell compelling stories, create buzz and generate brand loyalty. She has the news smarts of a former newspaper reporter and editor and the relationship building abilities of a seasoned PR pro. Her specialties are health care, nonprofit communications, eldercare, wellness, all subjects in which she is experienced, fluent and passionate.

She currently is a student in Columbia University’s Narrative Medicine program. She has a BS in Journalism from Arizona State University. She is an avid volunteer working with at-risk teens, packing meals at Feed My Starving Children and at the Irish American Heritage Center.
